The Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU) today welcomed another member to its ranks.
Television station Teleislas from the San Andres Island of Colombia joined forty-four (44) other members of the Union in the Dutch, English, French and Spanish Caribbean.
The island, while part of the Spanish-speaking Americas, shares significant historical features with the English-speaking region and its population includes a number of people of Anglophone Caribbean descent.
Teleislas, even before formally becoming a CBU member, established a strong partnership with other Caribbean broadcasters, last year hosting the First International Meeting of Ethnic Television in partnership with Colombia’s media regulator ANTV. The September 2016 conference was attended by representatives of CBU member systems from around the region.
Teleislas will now be able enjoy the many benefits of CBU membership including access to rights-free programming through the CBU Media Share portal, eligibility to enter the Caribbean Broadcasting Awards, participation in training sponsored by CBU partners, and discounts on attendance at the 48th Annual General Assembly, in Nassau, the Bahamas from August 21 to 24, 2017.
