Caribbean Broadcasting Union Welcomes Another New Member For 2016

The President of the Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU) Mrs. Shida Bolai today welcomed another member to the ranks of the Union for 2016.

Television station, National Television Network Incorporated (NTN) applied for membership under the new membership criteria recently approved. The August 2015 CBU General Assembly signed-off on updates to the By-Laws, allowing expansion of the categories of membership to include print, on-line and digital media.

NTN, which was incorporated in 2011, has been operating a free-to- air service in Guyana for the past few years. In welcoming the latest member, the CBU President noted Guyana’s media sector continues to be an active and a strong contributor to the CBU’s twenty-three (23) island and mainland countries and territories around the region.

Mrs Bolai expressed pleasure that when the Union holds its 47 th Annual General Assembly in Havana, Cuba in October 2016 it will include broadcasters from the

English, Dutch, Spanish and French-speaking Caribbean. This year’s Assembly, under the theme “Building Media Capacity to Advance the Caribbean” will include feature speakers from the Caribbean Disaster and Emergency

Management Agency, World Digital Audio Broadcast, Digital Radio Mondiale, the Caribbean Development Bank and the International Telecommunications Union.
