On March 2 and 3, 2018 the Association of Caribbean MediaWorkers (ACM) will be hosting a Disaster Reporting Symposium at the PomMarine Hotel in Barbados.
The symposium will focus on development of a protocol to guide the relationship between journalists and disaster management agencies, scenarios for optimum media performance at times of disaster and the emergence of climate change as a feature of Caribbean life and media reportage.
Support for this initiative has come from the International Freedom of Expression Exchange (IFEX) and is being held in collaboration with the Caribbean Disaster Management Agency (CDEMA), the Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU), UNESCO and others.
Partial funding is being provided to allow for the participation of one representative from each National Affiliate and Focal Point of the ACM in: Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Curacao, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Martinique, St Kitts & Nevis, Saint Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Trinidad & Tobago.
ACM delegates will be joined by colleagues from Mexico and Chile, courtesy the Latin American and Caribbean Alliance of IFEX.
There is limited space for interested journalists, but they must register interest by Friday February 9, 2018 via email to: email@example.com. Self-nominating participants will be responsible for all of their costs associated with attending the event.
The symposium will be followed by the Ninth Biennial General Assembly of the ACM on March 3, 2018.
