Dear CBU member,
As our region prepares for Hurricane Maria, the Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU) offers its support to all of you likely to be affected.
I also take the opportunity to congratulate those of you who were able to maintain your services during the challenging circumstances of Hurricane Irma. By the provision of timely, accurate and relevant information, through traditional and other channels, you fulfilled your role as public service media and helped mitigate loss of life and damage.
Kindly note the Union is actively engaged with regional and international agencies as well as broadcast manufacturers who have developed business relationships in the region, seeking to mobilise recovery support wherever possible. It has received encouraging replies and will relay more detail on these efforts as developments permit.
The CBU has also been assured by the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) that it is gathering data on the status of media operations in the work of the Rapid Needs Assessment Teams (RNAT) deployed in the aftermath of these weather events.
As you prepare for the approach of Hurricane Maria, I encourage you to safeguard your staff, property and other assets, even as your news teams brave the elements to ensure our nations remain informed.
I extend the Union’s best wishes that you weather the storm with minimum dislocation.
